Seed sacks may need both stable stacking and protection from dust or moisture during storage and transport. Stretch film and a PE pallet hood have different roles: one can help unitise a load in a suitable system, while a hood shields it from above and around.
Define sack and pallet conditions first
Record sack stitching and outer surface, pallet dimensions, layer pattern and expected storage time. If the product is moisture-sensitive, plan how the hood closes, how condensation risk is managed and how the pallet stays off a damp floor.
Sack friction or slipperiness affects inter-layer grip. Check overhang, pallet-board damage and height limits. For double-stacked pallets, separately assess compression of sacks and packaging.
Do not confuse stretch wrap with a PE hood
Trial stretch-wrap layers and tension against pallet geometry and application equipment; excessive tension can deform sacks. Covering the upper load does not mean the wrap creates a ground or rain barrier.
A PE hood can be considered to cover the pallet top and sides. Check how its lower edge is retained and whether it blocks forklift entry. A hood does not mechanically secure the load to handling equipment; validate stabilisation separately.
Trial storage and transport conditions
Observe the pallet in representative handling, short-term storage and loading scenarios. Record moisture build-up under the hood, sack deformation, pallet shift, tears and label readability. Separate hood use by season or route class where appropriate.
Mark the seed lot and packaging batch for traceability. If the receiving warehouse differs, review the hood and wrap combination alongside their receiving procedure. Use trial records to balance material use, damage and labour for the actual operation.

Frequently asked questions
Can a PE hood replace stretch wrap?
Not always. A hood shields the outside, while stretch wrap may unitise the load in a suitable application; both may be used if needed.
What if moisture forms under the hood?
Review storage and ventilation, trial condensation risk on the actual product, and keep sacks off damp floors.
