Touring and Warehouse Shipments for Stage Lighting Equipment

Stage lighting fixtures prepared in protective compartmented cases for shipment

Stage lights need repeatable packing because they are frequently installed, dismantled and moved between venues. Lenses, moving heads, yokes, power leads and control accessories face different risks. Follow the maker’s transport-lock and storage guide; choose a one-way carton or touring case based on use frequency and route conditions.

Protect optics and moving components

Follow the manufacturer’s transport-preparation steps for lens caps, head locks and sensitive surfaces. Do not assume the locking position; restraining a head incorrectly may load its mechanism. Support the fixture in the case and do not apply adhesive tape directly to optical surfaces.

Carry cables, clamps, safety bonds and control parts in separately identified compartments. Accessories must not strike moving fixture bodies. Fit the interior to each equipment model and include an inventory inside the case lid.

Choose cases, cartons and pallets for the use cycle

A reusable flight case may suit repeated touring and fast handling; a single-trip shipment may use a fitted corrugated pack. In either case, assess internal dimensions, packed weight, stacking and handholds, then perform a representative loading trial.

Close carton flaps with suitable carton tape. If multiple cases are palletised, check deck contact, weight distribution and corner support. Stretch wrap can unitise a pallet; it does not improve case impact performance or restrain the fixtures inside.

Check dispatch against the event schedule

Before dispatch, match fixture serial numbers, channel/accessory kits, case labels and delivery point. Make case orientation, lift points and stacking limits clear to handlers under the carrier and equipment instructions.

On return from an event, check lens caps, cables and connections before closing the case. Match damage and missing parts to the tour or event record; this makes it easier to restore the correct interior arrangement for the next shipment.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Can protective tape be applied to a stage-light lens?

Do not apply adhesive to optics without maker approval; use the recommended lens cap or protection method.

Does pallet wrap protect a flight case from impact?

No. It may unitise the pallet; the case and internal supports provide handling and impact protection.
