A rolled mattress may pass through several packaging layers before dispatch. Its product cover, any outer protective film, a shipper carton and pallet restraint do not serve the same purpose; define what each layer is intended to protect.
Follow the maker’s instructions for compression and rolling
Rolling or compressing a mattress depends on its construction and the manufacturer’s process. Packaging film or carton tape cannot substitute for that process. Define pack dimensions, roll diameter and label location by product family; follow the approved production instruction.
Check that product identity and user information remain available when the pack is opened. Place handling marks and order labels so they are not confused with the product’s own label.
Separate the outer protection layers and carton
An outer film may help reduce surface contamination or rubbing in storage; assess compatibility with the mattress pack, the seal or closure and the opening method. If a carton is used, size it around the roll and check whether void space allows movement.
Apply carton-sealing tape to the designed board joint, not as a substitute for the mattress’s own wrap. Trial tape against the board, carton weight and manual or automatic application; separately assess any contact with the product wrap.
Validate pallet stability without crushing the packs
Roll diameter and pack flexibility can affect layer stability. Overhang, uneven layers or unsuitable wrapping can increase shipment risk. Trial stretch-wrap tension on a real pallet and inspect for pack deformation, roll movement and label visibility.
Set stacking height and handling instructions by product family. Record how packs behave during loading and unloading; if damage occurs, assess layer pattern, pallet design and restraint method separately.

Frequently asked questions
Is one film enough for mattress packaging?
It depends on the product cover and shipping conditions. Validate the purpose and opening method of each layer on a sample.
Should stretch wrap compress the pack?
Wrapping should unitise the pallet and must be checked on the real load to ensure it does not deform the roll pack or mattress.
