A commercial espresso machine may ship as one appliance, but its portafilter, drip tray, hoses, filters and installation parts need separate protection. Plan the shipment around the maker’s instructions, internal restraint, accessory separation and secure outer-carton closure. This is a general checklist; the manufacturer’s guide takes precedence for draining, locking and lifting the actual machine.
Restrain the appliance and separate its accessories
Before dispatch, follow the manufacturer’s procedure for draining water, locking moving parts and protecting removable components. Use a suitable separator to reduce surface scuffing, and place cables and hoses in a separate compartment where they cannot press against the appliance.
Portafilters, baskets and small fittings should not move freely inside the carton. Place each item in a fitted slot or closed accessory box and include a contents list. This helps reduce both missing-part risk and contact between metal accessories and the machine finish.
Choose carton closure for the route
Select an outer pack that retains its shape for the appliance’s weight and dimensions. Check with a representative handling trial that the machine cannot shift forward, backward or sideways; use fit-for-purpose supports rather than loose, improvised void fill.
Apply carton-sealing tape continuously and evenly along the closure seams. For pallet transport, tape closes the carton while stretch wrap may help unitise a correctly designed pallet load. Wrap should not crush the appliance carton or replace internal protection.
Record checks before dispatch and at receipt
Match the product code, accessory list, carton count and shipping documents at dispatch. Correct crushed corners, opened tape, moisture or pallet movement before shipping, and photograph the package from multiple sides at loading and delivery.
ISTA’s packaged-product testing approach can help begin a review against actual distribution conditions. A single test or general recommendation cannot guarantee damage-free delivery on every route; product, pack and carrier conditions need joint verification.

Frequently asked questions
Can espresso-machine accessories ship in the same carton?
Yes, if they are separated from the appliance, restrained in their own compartments and kept from contacting the machine finish.
Is stretch wrap enough for a pallet shipment?
Wrap may support a pallet unit load; it does not replace internal restraint, protective components or carton sealing.
