Packaging for large glass panels depends on panel dimensions, edge sensitivity, carrier design and the loading method. Temporary surface protection, separators between panes and mechanical restraint on the A-frame are separate measures, not substitutes for one another.
Define panel order and contact points
Record glass type and dimensions, order sequence and which pane must be unloaded first. Show separator positions and contact points against the carrier clearly in the dispatch plan to avoid direct rubbing between panes.
Edge or corner contact is a different damage mode from surface scratching. Select edge protection for the panel geometry and check on a trial load that it does not create a slip or pinch point on the carrier.
Do not confuse surface film with mechanical restraint
If a surface-protection film is used, trial adhesion and removal on the actual glass finish and for the planned dwell time. It does not attach a pane to an A-frame; suitable carrier and restraint are needed for transport.
Do not treat stretch wrap as a direct clamping system for glass panes. If used to unitise a pallet or package, validate tension, contact points and panel movement on a representative load.
Document loading and unloading checks
Before loading, check frame locks, support points, pane sequence and transport orientation. Follow the handling equipment’s operating instructions and ensure packaging does not obstruct visibility or access to the carrier.
At receipt, record edge chips, surface scratches, pane movement and package opening. Linking photos to pane sequence and order details helps identify where damage occurred.

Frequently asked questions
Does protective film secure glass to an A-frame?
No. Surface film is temporary scratch protection; the carrier and mechanical restraints are designed separately.
Should stretch film be tightly wrapped around glass panes?
Do not assume direct compression is appropriate. Validate each use against pane movement, edge contact and carrier design.
