Choosing Kraft Tape for Carton Sealing

Choosing Kraft Tape for Carton Sealing

# Choosing Kraft Tape for Carton Sealing

Kraft tape is a paper-backed option for closing cartons. A paper appearance alone does not determine whether a tape is suitable: carton surface, packed weight, storage conditions and application method all affect the outcome. Test the intended tape on an actual packed carton before selecting it for production.

Define the carton and its journey

Record the carton dimensions and packed weight. Check whether the flaps tend to spring open and whether sharp or moving items inside may put pressure on the closure. Dust, coatings and paper composition can affect adhesion, so results may vary between carton suppliers.

Consider temperature, humidity and dwell time throughout storage and shipping. Condensation on cartons taken out of a cold area may interfere with bonding. Consult the product's application and service conditions rather than assuming that every paper tape behaves the same way.

Pressure-sensitive and water-activated paper tapes

Paper tapes may use different adhesive systems. Pressure-sensitive versions are applied with pressure; water-activated versions require controlled wetting and suitable equipment. Compare the required application process and technical documentation before choosing. Confirm the particular systems available from Biz2miz when requesting a quotation.

Test the complete pack

  1. Start with a clean, dry carton surface.
  2. Choose the tape width and sealing pattern to suit the carton and its load.
  3. Apply even pressure to establish contact with the surface.
  4. Allow the sample to dwell and run a trial representing normal handling and transport. Inspect for edge lift, opening and detachment.
  5. Record the results, adjust the carton, tape or process, and repeat the test.

This trial does not replace established shipping procedures or any formal package-performance testing required for valuable or heavy goods.

Is all kraft tape recyclable?

A paper-like appearance is not proof of recyclability. Assess the backing, adhesive, any reinforcement and the acceptance criteria of the local waste collection system. Check product evidence before making an environmental claim.
