Packaging for personal protective equipment kits does not certify the protective performance of the products; it helps the correct model and size reach the user. Hard hats, eyewear, gloves and hearing protection have different shapes and dimensions. They need to travel without pressing against one another, with contents matched to the order.
Match the kit recipe and size details to the order
List the product code, size and quantity of every item in the kit recipe. Do not mix similar-looking models or sizes in one compartment; confirm product identity with a barcode or internal label.
Use a separate cell that does not load weight onto the hard-hat shell, a sleeve that prevents scratches on eyewear, and a compartment that keeps glove pairs together. Preserve the maker’s storage and use instructions and do not substitute products inside the pack.
Standardise the carton interior and closure
Fill voids enough to prevent movement without creating pressure that deforms a hard hat or visor. Before sealing, match the contents list against the actual parts in a second check.
Carton tape closes the joint; it does not improve PPE performance or show that a size is correct. Printed tape can help identify a route or company on the outer carton, but should not cover the barcode, product name or warnings.
Keep receipt and replenishment records
OSHA’s PPE resources address equipment selection, use and maintenance through an employer programme. Packaging does not replace that programme; order, warehouse and site-delivery records should match the actual items.
On a sample shipment, check the contents count, product code and size, and visible damage at opening. If an item is missing or the wrong size is found at receipt, record the lot and order details and correct the kitting step.

Frequently asked questions
Does the PPE kit packaging certify the equipment?
No. Packaging helps protect and deliver the correct items; product approval and suitability depend on the manufacturer and workplace safety process.
Can a hard hat and safety glasses share one compartment?
Use separate cells if contact could create pressure or scratches.
Can printed carton tape identify the kit contents?
No. Keep a contents list and product code/size information; outer tape must not cover labels.
