POF shrink film can group canned drinks into a retail multipack. It is not a substitute for each can’s primary packaging or for securing a pallet load; treat those as separate packaging layers.
Match the pack layout to product geometry
Start by defining the can count, orientation and retail presentation. If cans shift within the bundle, inspect contact points and the pack pattern instead of simply tightening the film. Sharp lid edges, printed surfaces and how the multipack is carried should be included in the sample trial.
Choose a POF film by considering pack dimensions, film allowance, seal method and the line’s operating arrangement. Follow the supplier’s product data and verify compatibility on the actual machine rather than assuming it will run on existing equipment.
Run a controlled tunnel trial
Work in small steps within the machine maker’s safe operating range. Record seal integrity, corner appearance, can alignment and any punctures or excessive shrinkage on sample packs. Keep the pack layout constant when comparing settings.
At higher line speeds, assess the pack after cooling as well as throughput: does it retain its shape and keep the cans aligned? Record the film lot, settings and observations together to distinguish a material issue from a line adjustment.
Validate the shipper and pallet layer separately
Arrange POF multipacks in an outer carton so bundles do not collide; close the carton with a suitable carton-sealing tape. At pallet stage, review weight distribution and inter-layer movement. Stretch wrapping selected for pallet stability does not perform the same job as the POF multipack film.
Before approval, move a production sample through warehouse and distribution conditions. Agree written acceptance checks for opening, crushing, appearance and pack count. Reassess the sample when the beverage, can dimensions or line changes.

Frequently asked questions
Can POF film secure a pallet?
No. POF is the multipack layer; select and validate a separate suitable method for pallet-load restraint.
Can I choose film by thickness alone?
Thickness alone is insufficient. Consider pack dimensions, sealing, machine, line speed and transport trials together.
