A small parcel does not mean a low risk for optical eyewear. Lens surfaces can scratch, frame temples can bend under pressure, and labels for similar models or colours can be mixed. Packaging should separate each item and make the barcode match the exact order line.
Protect lenses and frame temples from contact
Place each pair in a clean microfiber sleeve or compatible protector inside a rigid eyewear case. Do not let lenses touch another pair, accessory or hard carton edge. The temples should not be closed under pressure inside the case.
If several items share an outer carton, place hard cases in separate cells. Do not leave spare nose pads, cloths or cases loose on a lens; reconcile each order’s accessories against a count list.
Cross-check model, colour and order labels
Use the same product code, model, colour and size information on the case or product label and the dispatch list. Scan before dispatch to ensure the barcode is not on a fold or under carton tape.
If case labels can be replaced, create a returns check to prevent a wrong model from re-entering stock. Scan the order line before closing the pack; do not match items by appearance alone.
Validate small-carton closure and a route trial
The outer carton should limit movement of the hard cases without allowing void fill to press on them. Test closure tape on the actual board and application temperature; excessive tape does not fix a poor internal layout.
On a sample shipment, check for lens scratches, frame deformation, movement and incorrect SKU/address labels. ISTA recommends selecting tests around the actual distribution flow; if orders travel on mixed pallets, assess outer-load restraint separately.

Frequently asked questions
Is bubble wrap alone enough for eyeglasses?
Use a protective sleeve and rigid case, and prevent the lens from contacting loose fill or another product.
Can several pairs travel in one parcel?
Yes, if each pair is in its own rigid case and the cases are separated and restrained in the outer carton.
Can carton tape cover the eyewear barcode?
No. Keep the barcode flat and readable, with closure tape away from its label area.
