Reducing Adhesive Residue When Removing Duct Tape

Reducing Adhesive Residue When Removing Duct Tape

Residue or surface damage after duct tape removal depends on adhesive, substrate and dwell conditions. Clean removal cannot be assumed for every product.

Test time and surface

Specify removability before purchasing and review the data sheet. On painted, coated or delicate surfaces, trial a small area for the intended dwell time.

Controlled removal

Lift tape slowly while observing the surface; stop if the coating lifts. If residue cleaning is needed, test the cleaner in an inconspicuous area and consult the surface manufacturer.
