Carton tape does not make a paint pail liquid-tight. Packing lids, pour spouts, instructions or spare parts in a separate carton keeps pail-closure checks distinct from the sealing of the accessory box.
Separate pail closure checks from accessory checks
Verify the pail lid and any tamper-related components under the packaging line’s own control plan. Do not treat carton tape around the lid as a liquid-sealing solution; it does not replace the closure system designed for the container.
List the items required with each pail. Use partitions or dividers to prevent fittings from striking one another or the container in transit, and make the product name, lot match and piece count easy to check inside the accessory carton.
Trial the tape on the carton board
Carton mass, flap design and board characteristics such as recycled content or surface dust can influence tape contact. Compare candidate tapes on the same carton using the same closure pattern and application method.
For hand application, check the dispenser and firm contact; for machine use, confirm tape width, roll and line compatibility. If temperature or storage duration varies, condition samples accordingly and inspect for flap opening or edge lift.
Manage leakage and pallet risks separately
Carton tape closes the accessory carton flaps. For any pail leakage risk, define suitable secondary containment, upright handling, segregation and applicable dangerous-goods procedures according to the product classification; do not expect tape to provide that protection.
At pallet build, check pail orientation, layer pattern, pallet overhang and tip risk during forklift movement. Stretch film may be one part of a validated pallet-stability plan. Record damage and leakage observations on an actual route.

Frequently asked questions
Should carton tape seal the paint pail lid?
Do not use carton tape as a liquid seal. Use the pail’s designed lid and closure system.
How should I select tape for the accessory carton?
Trial tape on the actual carton, considering board, weight, flap design and hand or machine application.
