Shipping Saddles and Equestrian Tack: Shape, Leather and Metal-Part Protection

A saddle, leather straps and metal stirrups prepared for shipping with separate protective cells

Equestrian orders can combine leather, textile and metal components. A saddle may be damaged by crushing or unsuitable suspension, while leather can be scuffed by buckles and stirrups. The pack should support the item’s shape and prevent small fittings from striking the main equipment.

Support the saddle body throughout transit

Follow the maker’s recommended support points and storage position; do not place heavy cartons on the seat. The carton or carrier should surround the saddle without compressing its flaps or front and rear projections.

If the product has a dedicated cover, make sure it is clean and dry. Internal supports should carry the shape; stretch film applied only around the outside is not a substitute for an internal saddle support.

Pack leather straps and metal fittings separately

Place stirrups, buckles and fittings in sleeved compartments so they cannot rub against leather or strike other metal parts. Coil straps loosely according to maker guidance and avoid tight knots.

If a leather-care liquid travels in the same carton, keep it closed in its manufacturer packaging with secondary leak protection. Reconcile the set to its parts list and label matched left/right components and sizes separately.

Validate the outer carton for actual weight and stacking

Choose a rigid carton suitable for the combined weight of the saddle and metal fittings. Test top and bottom closure tape on the actual board; pallet wrap should not push cartons inward or crush their edges.

On a sample delivery, check saddle shape, leather scuffs, metal contact and accessory count. Link photographs of damage or shortages to the lot and order; if reusing the carrier, assess tape residue on the surface.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Should a saddle hang inside its shipping carton?

Follow the maker’s support recommendations; do not assume a hanging point without support that preserves the saddle shape.

Can stirrups travel in the same bag as a saddle?

Secure metal parts in separate sleeves or compartments so they cannot touch the leather.

Should a saddle carton be fully wrapped on a pallet?

A suitable pallet load may be restrained, but the wrap should not crush the saddle carton or replace its internal support.
