Combine blades and cutter segments need special packaging because of their sharp edges and long shape. Packing tape or stretch film alone does not make a cutting edge safe. Design the sleeve for each part, bundle support, pallet restraint and handling marks as one system.
Cover cutting edges and ends
Group blades by product code and length. Use a durable sleeve or profile guard along the full cutting edge and protect the ends against puncture. The guard must stay in place during handling without scratching the blade.
Use separators to prevent metal-to-metal contact and edge damage between parts. Confirm with the assembly team whether the guard obscures any mounting holes needed downstream.
Restrain the bundle and support it along its length
Provide enough support along the bundle. Long blades tied only at their ends can flex or shift in the middle. Distribute strap pressure over edge protectors and check that it leaves no marks on the sample product.
Packing tape may help hold an inner sleeve in place, but it is not the primary load restraint. Straps must not press directly onto a sharp edge. Follow workplace procedures for lifting equipment and handling.
Choose a pallet and outer cover
Select the pallet for the bundle length and weight. Keep the load within its footprint; ensure straps, corner guards and base blocks cannot move in transit. Mark lifting direction and load weight clearly.
Where outdoor staging or rain is a risk, a PE cover can provide an outer protective layer. Prevent the cover from rubbing against blade tips or collecting water. It does not replace edge protection or pallet restraint.
Prepare for dispatch and storage safety
Mark the package with sharp-content, weight, product-code and lifting information under your site procedure. Store blade bundles away from pedestrian traffic and prevent them from tipping in racks.
Before dispatch, inspect sleeve coverage, strap tension, pallet condition and access. Replace damaged sleeves before loading. At receipt, inspect protective layers and risk markings before opening the bundle.

Frequently asked questions
Can blades be wrapped only in stretch film?
No. Film can help unitise the bundle, but sharp edges require dedicated physical guards and mechanical pallet restraint.
Can blade sets be tied together in one bundle?
Only when dimensions are compatible, separators and lengthwise supports are present, and safe handling has been validated.
Does a PE cover protect a cutting edge?
No. It can help protect from weather; it does not replace an edge sleeve.
